A Nigerian man from Adamawa state studying PhD at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Dr. Chiroma, was reportedly found dead in his hostel room on Friday March 27.

"A Nigerian from Adamawa state studying PhD at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Dr. Chiroma has died in his hostel room amidst coronavirus lockdown. He might have died since yesterday, but his body was seen dead today after several hours without seeing him. He is a nice and friendly man, also so jovial.
May Allah forgive him and give the family fortitude to bear the loss. Amin" he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysia will go on lockdown from March 31 to contain the coronavirus outbreak, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said in a live telecast last week.

All houses of worship and businesses are to close, except supermarkets, markets, minimarkets and convenience stores, with Friday prayers suspended for Muslims, in line with a decree by the Malaysian king.

Save for essential services like utilities, telecommunications, transport, banking, health, pharmacies, ports, airports, cleaning and food supplies, all other government and private premises will also be closed. This includes all schools and universities.

Tourists will not be allowed to enter the country, while Malaysians are banned from travelling overseas. Those returning to Malaysia will have to undergo health checks and a 14-day self quarantine period.

There will be a ban on public gatherings and movements, including religious, sports, social and cultural activities.
